The holiday season is a time of year when many people, including LaForce employees, are not only thinking about their Christmas shopping, meal preparing and celebrating with family, but they are also concerned about the well-being of others. With monetary and volunteer donations, LaForce and their employees strongly support a local organization that believes in helping people help themselves.
The New Community Shelter is a local emergency shelter that provides shelter, case management, education and many other supportive services to individuals in Green Bay. They pride themselves on being a zero-tolerance facility with rules and expectations for all visitors. In addition to being an emergency shelter, they have 20 apartments which serve as a Transitional Living Program allowing people more time to transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency. The New Community Shelter also serves any child and adult from the community that is hungry (as long as they are peaceful and sober) through their Community Meal Program. They serve dinners 365 days a year as well as lunch every weekend and holiday.
The New Community Shelter relies on volunteers to help them serve the meals as well as for financial support. LaForce is a big supporter of the New Community Shelter and donates both time and money to their cause. Some of LaForce’s efforts include spring landscaping, serving evening meals and our most current project, the annual LaForce holiday gift drive. In addition, for several years, LaForce has been sponsoring the shelter’s golf outing, its largest fundraiser. All of this volunteering and donating has not gone unnoticed!
Each year at their golf outing, the New Community Shelter honors an individual (or individuals) for their continuous involvement and support of the shelter. This “Homeless Heroes” award is a big honor, and we are honored to have received it this year. LaForce strongly believes in supporting the overall wellness of the communities in which we do business, and it is pretty cool when a group that we are supporting recognizes the time and money we are giving.
Oh and by the way, the LaForce team did win the golf outing by 2 strokes (-12)!
